The Double Ninth Day is called 重阳节(chóng yáng jié) in Chinese, for people celebrate it on the 9th of September according to lunar calendar, it’s not as important as other festivals such as Mid-autumn Day or Spring festival, but people also like it and give wishes to bothers and elderly people. 九(jiǔ:number 9)has the same syllable with character “久(jiǔ)” which means “long lasting “, that’s why 重阳节 is also called 九九重阳节,indicates a day to celebrate long lasting friendship and wish longevity for elderly.
In the old days, the way people celebrating it is through climbing high mountains or other higher places, also people usually like to drink 菊花酒( jú huā jiǔ)/chrysanthemum wine with friends and appreciate 菊花( jú huā), in some place 重阳节 is also called 菊花节.
