In the previous lecture，we’ve learned that the plural and singular forms of nouns and pronouns in Chinese is different from that in English, In Chinese language, a numeral is usually not immediately followed by a noun, a measure word is used in between to indicate the quantities of a noun or an action, like the usage of uncountable nouns in English language, a cup of tea, a piece of paper, three packs of rice, etc. ,but there is no such a limit in Chinese language, for example， 一把扇子，两下,三趟 ，the structure is numeral+ measure word+noun.
The most commonly and widely used measure word is 个（gè）,some nouns have their own specific measure word. for example,一本书，一张纸，一碗米饭，一斤肉，一座庙，一条河….
Measure words are also used in questions, usually when you ask,”how many?”or”how much?” which means“多少？”,to make a more precise question, we usually add a measure word after 多少 “多少斤？”, “多少个？”.
