Ode to snow咏雪(yǒng xuě)

piece:片(piàn)

1-一(yī),2-二(èr),3-三(sān),4-四(sì),5-五(wǔ),6-六(liù),

7-七(qī),8-八(bā),9-九(jiǔ),10-十(shí)

thousand:千(qiān )

ten thousand:万(wàn)

countless/innumerable/myriad:无数(wú shù)

fly into:飞入(fēi rù)

plum blossom:梅花(méi huā)

always disappear:总不见(zǒng bù jiàn)

                                                         《咏雪》 清 郑板桥

                                   一片二片三四片, 五片六片七八片;

                                   千片万片无数片, 飞入梅花总不见。



                                                         

                                                       《山村咏怀》 北宋 邵康节

                                             一去二三里,烟村四五家。

                                             亭台六七座,八九十枝花。

Tips:

This is a pastoral poem, describing the view of a countryside.

去(qù):here means look out in distance from where you’re standing.

里(lǐ):a Chinese unit of length,1里=1/2 kilometer

一去二三里:it means you look out in distance, you could only see 2 or 3 miles at your first sight.

烟(yān):smog, here refers to smog mixed with fog.

村(cūn):villages

家(jiā ):here it is used as a measure word for village.

烟村四五家:here it means you can see 4 or 5 villages covered by fog and smog.

亭台(tíng tái):pavilions

座(zuò):a measure word for pavilions.

亭台六七座:there you can see 6 or 7 pavilions are there.

八九十:here it means a lot, not really indicates 8 or 10 branches of flowers.

枝(zhī ):branch, a measure word for flower.
